I hummed a few times
on a note
which was one step above
the first note that came to me,
and the reason was
to give me a lift,
and to clear the mind,
because I wanted
to write
a fresh poem
that was not tainted
by my old, used-up thoughts
which had come before,
so I hummed
and then worked my way
up my body
with a mixolydian scale,
which is major
with a flatted seventh,
and on each note
I sang
with a vowel sound
that I consider to be good
for each part of the body,
so - hum, oo, oh, aw, ay, eh, ee, eee, eeee,
or so it was
