Kongsaeng's Notions About His Mind

Inside,
while contemplating,
Kongsaeng has one voice
which is me/not me,
and another voice
which seems to be
other/not other,
and a simple repeating song
sung automatically,
but Kongsaeng's me/not me
is not in his voice,
because Kongsaeng
seems to be
just this guy sitting here
who is watching and listening,
and he has no "own self"
but is rather
form which is emptiness,
and when Kongsaeng
is meditating
the voices quiet down,
but the song
keeps playing
along to his breathing,
so I guess
Kongsaeng has no real self
that I can talk about,
except for this guy here

Somebody Up There

As a kid
I heard the song
about somebody
watching over me,
and in Lutheran church
I heard about God,
and all through
the rest of my life
I heard about
higher powers
and bodhisattvas
and angels
and devils
and a great amount
of higher powers
who would watch over me,
and guide me,
and then it struck me
this morning
that somebody up there
or down there
or wherever
may be controlling me,
and I might not like
what they have in mind,
so after a lifetime
of prayer and meditation
and chanting and bowing,
I tend to like
the idea of Bodhidharma
who said,
Vast Empiness Everywhere,
but I still think
there is somebody up there
and I hope

they like me.
